This series of historical fiction is non-stop action. A definate page-turner.

Laurence's father is that landlord and Laurence despises him. When father makes an unjust demand, Laurence is harshly punished for disobedience and then flees.

The Dark is Rising Sequence, by Susan Cooper
Will Stanton is only eleven, but he learns that he is one of the "Old Ones": protectors of humanity. The series takes place in the tumultuous British Isles as age old dark forces battle to overtake Will's modern world.
This series has an amazingly robust plot and unforgettable characters. I'd recommend it to any fantasy fan.[Return to top]
The Enchanted Forest Chronicles, by Patricia C. Wrede
This series is so much fun! It stars Princess Cimerone who is sick of being a princess: of emboidery, manners, her six perfect sisters, and most of all, the arranging of her own marriage to a bore of a prince. So Cimerone takes the advice of a frog and becomes the princess of a very respectable dragon, thus getting involved with a bunch of evil-doing wizards, an ever-changing enchanted forest, and princes made of stone, for starters.
I absolutely adore this series. It's so funny and Cimerone is a fabulous, humorous, strong herione. You're going to love these books.

Harry Potter, by J.K. Rowling
For anyone who hasn't read any of the books, here's the lowdown. At the start of the series, eleven-year-old Harry Potter discovers that he is more than just the ill-liked relative of his Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon. He is a wizard, like his parents before him. But he is not just any wizard, he is the wizard famous for having defeated the evil Lord Voldemort.
To be trained in the wizarding craft, Harry must go to Hogwarts School of Wizardry and Witchcraft. There he meets both friend and enemy as he receives his training and confronts challenges that may prove deadly.
For anyone who is contemplating reading this series, I'd say "Just do it!" The books get progressively better, and the plots are complicated and very, very good.[Return to top]
The Lord of the Rings, by J.R.R. Tolkein
If you haven't read The Lord of the Rings, you are missing out on one of the best fantasy series of all time! J.R.R. Tolkein is the master of the fantasy genre. His world is that of "middle earth," where elves, dwarves, hobbits, and dark riders roam.
Basically, the story is about a hobbit named Frodo who inherits a magical ring. The only problem is that the ring is a "ring of power," and it has to be destroyed! So, he and his friends are off on an quest to the only place the ring can be destroyed: the very center of the powers of darkness. It's a story not to be missed.[Return to top]
